about

The chanting you hear on this track is from Ngakpa Ozer Dorje (aka Danny Griffin), an artist I found on The Freesound Project - (freesound.iua.upf.edu).

The Freesound Project aims to create a huge collaborative database of audio snippets, samples, recordings, etc. released under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus License.

Danny lives in London, and the contribution he chose to make to this song is a shining example of the power of the web. This song would never have sounded quite like this without the chants, and those would not be here without the ability to find him on a site like Freesound.

Danny is chanting the Vajrasattva Mantra. Vajrasattva is one of the key Buddhas in the Vajrayana pantheon. He signifies the truth of the Buddha's message that has always existed and is expressed through the Buddha's teachings.

After taking refuge and engendering bodhicitta - the commitment to help all beings to enlightenment - the individual is required to practice reciting the hundred-syllable Vajrasattva mantra. The essential message of this practice is: 'Abandon all harmful deeds; perform wholesome ones'.

I can only hope that this message is felt as you listen to this song.
